Lower down there are langurs, butterflies and dense forest; higher up, Himalayan tahr, musk deer and — for the very lucky — signs of snow leopard. The Barun Valley's strict-reserve status keeps it pristine. Walking through it, you're not just trekking to a base camp; you're crossing one of Asia's last great wild places.
