If mainstream Nepal is Everest and Annapurna, the far west is the part even most Nepalis never visit. It is the country's wildest, least-developed and least-trekked corner — and after the PM spotlighted Api Himal, it is finally getting attention. Here is how to actually travel there in 2026.

Getting there
The far west is remote by design. Most travellers fly from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi in the lowlands, then drive north for many hours into the hill districts — Darchula for Api, or toward Khaptad's plateau. There is no quick way in, which is exactly why the region stays so pristine. Roads are rough and infrastructure is basic, so this is country for organised, guided travel rather than independent improvisation.
