PM Balen Shah Spotlights Api Himal Base Camp in Far-West Nepal
Nepal's PM Balen Shah is pointing the world toward the far west: Api Himal Base Camp, a remote 7,132m giant in Darchula that almost no foreign trekker has seen. Here's the trek.

Nepal's far west is the part of the country the world forgot — and Nepal's Prime Minister, Balen Shah, just reminded everyone it exists. His film of Api Himal and its base camp in Darchula district — snow-draped giants above impossibly green alpine meadows — drew nearly 300,000 likes. For the trekker who wants to go somewhere virtually no foreigner has been, this is your map.

The last great untouched trek
Api Himal sits in the remote north-west corner of Nepal, in Darchula district — not to be confused with the Indian town across the border. (Api Base Camp is firmly in Nepal.) The trek climbs through subtropical forest and traditional far-western villages into the Api Nampa Conservation Area, opening onto wide green pastures beneath the fluted ice walls of Api. There are no lodge crowds here, no trekker traffic — just shepherds, snow peaks and silence. It is what the popular trails were like fifty years ago.

Why the world should care
The PM's spotlight on the far west is about more than a pretty view — it is a push to spread tourism beyond Everest and Annapurna into regions that need it. For international adventurers, that is a rare invitation: to be among the first foreign trekkers on a trail a head of state is personally championing. Api is remote and demands a proper expedition setup, but the reward is a Himalaya almost no outsider has witnessed.
