Comparison FAQ

What is the easiest trek in Nepal?

For most travellers the easiest classic treks are Ghorepani Poon Hill (4–5 days, max 3,210 m) and the Helambu Trek near Kathmandu (5–7 days, max ~3,640 m). Both have gentle gradients, comfortable teahouses and no flights, which makes them ideal first Himalayan treks.

What is the hardest trek in Nepal?

The most demanding non-expedition treks are the Dhaulagiri Circuit (two passes above 5,200 m, fully camping), the Everest Three High Passes (5,535 m) and the remote Kanchenjunga and Makalu Base Camp circuits. They require prior high-altitude experience and 18–28 days.

Which Nepal trek is best for first-timers?

Ghorepani Poon Hill, Mardi Himal, Pikey Peak and the Annapurna Base Camp trek are the best first-timer options — moderate altitude, good teahouses and big mountain views without technical terrain. The comparison table above lets you filter by Easy/Moderate difficulty.

How much does a trek in Nepal cost in 2026?

Guided treks in this table range from around US$300 for a short Poon Hill trip to US$2,200+ for remote restricted-area circuits like Kanchenjunga and Upper Mustang. Price covers permits, a licensed guide, porter, teahouse lodging and meals. See our full Nepal trekking cost breakdown for details.

Do I need a guide for these treks?

Yes — since April 2023 foreign trekkers must hire a licensed guide in Nepal’s national parks and conservation areas, and restricted areas (Manaslu, Upper Mustang, Tsum, Kanchenjunga) have always required a registered agency. Read our guide on whether you need a trekking guide in Nepal.
