How accurate is the Nepal permit cost calculator?+
It uses the official 2026 permit fees set by Nepal’s National Parks, conservation areas and rural municipalities, reviewed June 2026. Conservation/national-park fees are fixed in Nepali rupees; restricted-area permits (Manaslu, Upper Mustang) are priced in US dollars and depend on trek length and season. USD figures are approximate at ~NPR 133 per US dollar.
Does the calculator include the cost of a guide?+
No — it shows permit fees only. Since April 2023 a licensed guide is also required for national-park and restricted-area trekking. When you book a package with Travel Himalaya Nepal, every permit and your guide are included in the price.
Why are Manaslu and Upper Mustang so much more expensive?+
They are restricted areas. The Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is charged per person per week (Manaslu) or per 10-day block (Upper Mustang), on top of conservation permits, and requires a registered guide and a minimum of two trekkers — which is why their totals are far higher than teahouse regions like Annapurna or Everest.
In what currency do I pay for permits?+
National-park and conservation-area permits and TIMS are paid in Nepali rupees. The restricted-area permits for Manaslu and Upper Mustang are officially priced in US dollars. Carry Nepali rupees in cash for fees collected on the trail.
