Planning a Nepal Trek from Germany (2026): Flights, Costs, Itineraries & Visa

Everything a German traveller needs to plan a Nepal trek in 2026 — real flight routings from Frankfurt, Munich & Berlin, a realistic budget in euros, sample itineraries, the best season and the easy visa.

No nation hikes quite like Germany — and Nepal is the natural upgrade from the Alps: hut-to-hut becomes teahouse-to-teahouse, but the mountains are three times higher. The trekking is world-class and the visa is easy; the main thing to plan around is the flight and the budget. Here's the complete trip-planning guide for German travellers in 2026.

Nepal from Germany — quick facts

  • Visa: issued on arrival in Kathmandu (US$30 / $50 / $125) — full rules on our Nepal visa guide for German citizens
  • Flights: no direct route — about 12–16 hours via one Gulf or Istanbul hub
  • Best time: autumn (Sep–Nov) and spring (Mar–May)
  • All-in budget: roughly €2,000–3,300 for a 2–3 week trip

Getting there: flights from Germany

There are no nonstop flights from Germany to Kathmandu (KTM); you connect through one hub. From Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin the quickest routings are via the Gulf or Istanbul — Qatar Airways (Doha), Emirates (Dubai), Etihad (Abu Dhabi) or Turkish Airlines (Istanbul). Total journey time is typically 12–16 hours including the layover, with round-trip fares around €600–1,000 depending on season and booking lead time.

Which trek — and a sample itinerary

  • Annapurna Circuit (14 days): the classic long loop German hikers love — Besisahar → Manang (acclimatize) → Thorong Phedi → over the Thorong La (5,416m) → Muktinath → Jomsom. A proper multi-day Tour.
  • Everest Base Camp (12 days): the icon — Lukla, Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, EBC, sunrise at Kala Patthar.
  • Annapurna Base Camp (9 days): shorter, into the Sanctuary from Pokhara.

When to go & what to know

Autumn (Sep–Nov) gives the clearest skies and is peak season; spring (Mar–May) is warm with rhododendron blooms. Book 2–3 months ahead for autumn, and leave a buffer day for the weather-dependent Lukla flight (for Everest). A licensed guide is required on the main routes (we include one). The euro stretches a long way on the ground, so the flight is most of your budget.
