How Many Days Do You Really Need in Nepal? A 2026 Trip Planner
You've got a week. Or ten days. Or three. The real question isn't "is that enough for Nepal?" — it's "which Nepal fits my days?" Here's the honest, trek-by-length planner.

Quick planner
- 7 days: a short trek (Poon Hill or Mardi) plus a city day.
- 9–10 days: the Annapurna Base Camp trek, comfortably.
- 12–14 days: the classics — Everest Base Camp or the Annapurna Circuit.
- 19+ days: the big remote loops — Manaslu & Tsum, or Upper Mustang plus more.
You have got ten days off. Or fourteen. Or maybe just a week. The real question is not “is that enough for Nepal?” — it is “which Nepal fits my days?” There is a brilliant trek for almost any trip length. Here is the honest planner, including the buffer days most people forget.
The planner: your days, your trek
| Total trip | What fits |
|---|---|
| ~7 days | Ghorepani Poon Hill or Mardi Himal (4 days) + Kathmandu/Pokhara |
| 9–10 days | Annapurna Base Camp — the best scenery-per-day trek |
| 12–14 days | Everest Base Camp or the Annapurna Circuit (Thorong La) |
| 16–18 days | EBC + Gokyo Lakes, Circuit + Tilicho, or a first 6,000m peak |
| 19+ days | Manaslu + Tsum Valley, or Upper Mustang with extensions |
Don’t forget the buffer days
Here is the mistake that ruins tight itineraries: no slack. Count your trek days plus arrival, departure and jet lag — and for anything using the Lukla flight (Everest, Gokyo), add two buffer days, because weather delays are normal, not rare. A 12-day Everest trek really wants a 16-day trip. Skimp on the buffer and one cloudy morning in Lukla can cost you your flight home.
The sweet spot for most people
If you can find 12 to 16 days, you unlock Nepal’s true bucket-list treks — Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna Circuit, Manaslu — with enough room to acclimatise and absorb a delay. Fewer days is not a dealbreaker, though: the Annapurna region delivers world-class mountains in under a week, no domestic flight required.
The honest advice
Pick the trek to fit your days — not the other way round. Rushing a big trek to fit a short window is how people get altitude-sick or miss their flight. Tell us how many days you have and we will build the best possible trip around them, buffer included.
Short on time? The 4-day Poon Hill or 9-day Annapurna Base Camp. Two weeks? The Everest Base Camp trek. Three? The Manaslu Circuit. Still deciding? Our which-trek guide matches treks to your days, fitness and budget.
