Is November too late to trek Nepal in 2026? Here's the honest answer
No - November is often the clearest month of the whole year, and after the festival crowds go home around 10 November the trails empty out while the skies stay 150km-sharp. Here's exactly what changes, and when it really does get too cold.

No — November is not too late to trek Nepal in 2026. It is arguably the best month of the year to go. The post-monsoon air is at its clearest, with mountain visibility often stretching past 150km on a still morning, and once the Tihar festival crowds head home around 10 November, trekker numbers fall by 30 to 40 percent while the weather holds. The one honest trade-off is cold: nights bite at altitude, and by December the highest passes start closing for days at a time. Here is how to read the month.
Key facts
- November delivers the year's most stable skies — visibility routinely beats October's, often 150km-plus on clear mornings
- After roughly 10 November the autumn crowd thins by 30–40% as the festival rush ends, but the fine weather continues
- Tihar 2026 falls on 7–11 November, keeping the first week busy on flights, buses and popular lodges
- High passes like Thorong La (5,416m) and Larke La stay crossable through November; December is when they start closing
Why the skies are better than October's
October gets the headlines as Nepal's peak trekking month, and deservedly — the monsoon has washed the dust out and daytime temperatures at trekking altitude sit around a comfortable 10 to 16°C. But October is also the busiest the trails ever get. November keeps almost all of October's upside and quietly improves on it: high-altitude precipitation across the whole month averages just about 12mm, which works out to one or two light snow flurries for the entire month, and the settled air pushes visibility even further than October's. If your priority is a clean, uninterrupted view of the Annapurna or Everest skyline, a mid-November morning is as good as Nepal gets.
The festival calendar shapes the month
Two dates decide how busy November feels. Dashain, Nepal's biggest festival, peaks on Vijaya Dashami on 21 October, and Tihar, the festival of lights, follows on 7 to 11 November 2026. That is later than usual — in many years Tihar falls in late October — so in 2026 the busy, book-early window stretches into the first days of November. Domestic flights, tourist buses and the best-known lodges stay tight through Tihar, and some guides, porters and lodge staff go home to their villages for it. The reward comes straight after: from around 10 to 25 November you get the sweet spot — peak-quality weather, thinner crowds and staff back on the trail.
| Factor | October | Late November |
|---|---|---|
| Clear-morning visibility | 100km+ | 150km+ |
| Daytime temp at trek altitude | 10 to 16°C | 6 to 12°C |
| Night temp near high passes | -5 to 0°C | -15 to -5°C |
| Crowds | Peak | Noticeably quieter |
| High-pass risk | Low | Low, rising into December |
Temperatures are indicative for standard teahouse-trek altitudes and the high passes respectively; a single storm can always shift a pass day, which is why guided groups plan an early-morning crossing and carry a spare buffer day.
When it genuinely does get too late
November's limit is temperature, not weather instability. Daytime trekking stays pleasant, but nights at altitude drop hard — near the high passes it can sit between -15 and -5°C after dark, with light snow possible. The passes themselves — Thorong La on the Annapurna Circuit, Larke La on Manaslu — remain crossable right through November in a normal year, but they are where the season ends: from December, they close for days at a stretch when snow moves in. If you want a high pass, aim to cross before the end of November. If you would rather stay warm, the lower-altitude classics — Poon Hill, the Annapurna Base Camp approach, Everest View — are comfortable well into the month.
What this means for you
If you can only travel in November, book it without hesitation — and target the 10–25 November window for the best mix of clear skies and elbow room. Bring a warmer sleeping bag rated to about -15°C for anything crossing a high pass, and if your trip includes Thorong La or Larke La, keep a spare day in hand. Sort flights and permits before Tihar (7–11 November), when domestic seats and popular lodges book out.
