Mera Peak Climbing 2026: Nepal's Highest Trekking Peak — Cost, Route & Difficulty
At 6,476m, Mera is Nepal's highest trekking peak — and one of the most achievable, with a summit view of five 8,000m giants. Here's the full 2026 guide.

If your goal is to stand as high as possible on your first Himalayan climb, Mera Peak is the one. At 6,476m it is the highest of Nepal's "trekking peaks," yet it is non-technical — no vertical ice walls, just a long, steady snow ascent. The reward is one of the greatest summit panoramas on Earth: five 8,000-metre giants in a single sweep.
Mera Peak — key facts
- Height: 6,476m — Nepal's highest trekking peak
- Grade: non-technical — endurance and altitude, not vertical climbing
- Region: the remote Hinku Valley, east of the Everest trail
- Length: ~15–18 days · Cost: from around US$2,200
- Summit view: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu & Kanchenjunga
How hard is it?
Mera's challenge is altitude and endurance, not technique. Summit day is a long pre-dawn snow plod with crampons and a rope for the glacier, finishing on a short steeper section to the top. No prior climbing skills are required — but you must be fit and well acclimatised, which is why a good itinerary builds in time in the wild Hinku Valley. It is the perfect "altitude first" peak.
