Dashain 2027 tika falls on Saturday 9 October. The festival opens with Ghatasthapana on Thursday 30 September and runs to Kojagrat Purnima on Thursday 14 October. Tihar follows three weeks later, with Bhai Tika on Sunday 31 October 2027.

If you are planning a Nepal trek for autumn 2027, the number that matters is this: Dashain is twelve days earlier than it is in 2026. This year tika lands on 21 October, comfortably inside the season. In 2027 it lands on the 9th — which puts the whole shutdown across the opening fortnight of the autumn trekking window.

Nepal Sambat — the Newar calendar — begins its new year on 30 October 2027, alongside Mha Puja. It is a separate reckoning from the Bikram Sambat year that governs everything else on this page.

Why the dates move, and why 2027 is early

Dashain is fixed to the lunar calendar, not the Gregorian one, so it drifts against your diary by a week or two each year in a cycle that eventually corrects. Tika is always Vijaya Dashami, the tenth day of the bright fortnight of Ashwin. In 2026 that lands on 21 October. In 2027 the same tithi arrives on 9 October.

What it means if you are trekking in autumn 2027

Autumn is the clearest trekking window of the year in Nepal, and it broadly runs from the monsoon’s withdrawal in early October through to late November. In 2027 Dashain sits directly on the front of it.

Concretely: roughly 30 September to 14 October 2027 is the disrupted stretch, and the tightest days are the 7th to the 10th. Domestic flights and long-distance buses fill weeks ahead as the whole country travels home. Guides and porters want to be with their families — they are somebody’s son and brother before they are your staff, and the good ones are booked early or not at all. Government offices and permit desks close. Many shops shut for several days around tika.

None of that makes trekking impossible; the trails themselves are quiet and beautiful, and the lodges stay open. It makes the logistics harder, and it means the first two weeks of October 2027 will cost more and offer less choice than the same fortnight in a normal year.
