Boils water at altitude, where cheaper stoves stop trying

MSR PocketRocket Deluxe

Canister stove, pressure regulator, ~83 g

4.7 on Amazon

The pressure regulator is the whole point — it keeps output steady as a canister empties and as it gets cold, which is exactly when an unregulated stove starts failing; you cannot fly with the fuel, so plan to buy canisters in Kathmandu.

What you get

  • Regulated output holds up in cold and at low canister pressure
  • Built-in igniter that actually works
  • Tiny and light

What it costs you

  • Fuel canisters cannot be flown — buy in Thamel
  • No wind protection at all
  • Useless on a teahouse trek

Do not buy this if: Lodge trekking. Every teahouse sells hot water and cooks your dinner.

Treks we recommend this for

Not every route needs it. These are the ones where our guides would put it on your list.

The alternatives

Everything else we recommend in stoves & cookware, including the ones we think suit a different trekker.
