Nepal does issue free tourist visas, but only to citizens of SAARC countries — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, the Maldives — once per visa year, and to Chinese nationals, who are exempt from the fee entirely. Qatari passport holders are in neither group. Children under 10 are free.
Has anything changed with Nepal visas in 2026?+
Yes. Nepal's e-Visa system became fully operational on 17 August 2026 — you apply at immigration.gov.np, are normally approved within 24 hours, and print the visa before you fly instead of queueing for a sticker. Visa on arrival has not been withdrawn and remains available to almost every nationality, so either route works.
Can I extend my Nepal tourist visa?+
Yes — extend at the Immigration Office in Kathmandu or Pokhara: US$45 for 15 days, then US$3/day. Maximum tourist stay is 150 days per visa year.
