Trek to the sacred Hindu and Buddhist alpine lakes of Gosaikunda (4,380m).
Drive northwest from Kathmandu (5–6 hours) through the Trishuli River gorge and terraced hillsides to Dhunche (1,950m), the headquarters of Langtang National Park and starting point for the Gosaikunda pilgrimage route.
The Gosaikunda Lake Trek is a 9-day journey to one of Nepal's most sacred pilgrimage sites — a string of sixteen alpine lakes at 4,380 m in the Langtang National Park, of which Gosaikunda is the most revered: a Hindu holy lake visited by hundreds of thousands of pilgrims during Janai Purnima (full moon, July–August) and renowned for its crystal-clear waters and surrounding 6,000 m peaks.
The approach from Syabrubesi climbs through the Sing Gompa forest and Laurebina La (4,610 m) to reach the lake basin. The high plateau above the lakes offers panoramic views of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Ganesh Himal, and Dorje Lakpa on clear days. The descent via Sundarijal returns through rhododendron forest — the full traverse from Syabrubesi to Sundarijal is the classic Gosaikunda route, covering varied terrain with excellent acclimatisation staging.
Best seasons: October–November and March–May (avoid August monsoon). Access: Kathmandu–Syabrubesi bus (included). Max altitude: Laurebina La 4,610 m.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Best season. Clear skies, excellent views of Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal. October is perfect. Less crowded than Annapurna/Everest.
Spring (Mar–May)
Good. Rhododendron forests in bloom. Gosaikunda still partially frozen in March, fully accessible by May.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Cold but accessible lower Langtang. Kyanjin Gompa reachable with cold-weather gear. Gosaikunda route may be closed.
Monsoon (Jun–Aug)
Wet trails, leeches in forest sections, views obscured. Not recommended.
Langtang National Park Permit
USD 30Required for all Langtang treks. Checked at park entrance.
TIMS Card
USD 20Required for all Nepal treks.
All permits are arranged and included in your package price. Nothing to organise yourself.

🇮🇳August 2025
Gosaikunda holds immense spiritual significance for Hindu trekkers and I wanted to experience it properly. Travel Himalaya Nepal understood this completely — our guide Prakash was deeply respectful of the pilgrimage aspect while also ensuring we were safe. The Janai Purnima timing was overwhelming — thousands of pilgrims, drums, flowers, the sacred lake... it was something no tourist attraction could replicate. Outstanding company.

April 2025
Gosaikunda exceeded every expectation. I had read about the sacred lake but nothing prepared me for actually standing at 4,380m looking at water that seems to belong to another world. The rhododendron forests below Lauribina Pass were in full bloom — red, pink, white, wall to wall. Guide Dawa was wonderful about the altitude — we had proper acclimatisation stops and I never felt unwell. Travel Himalaya Nepal's attention to safety detail is genuinely impressive.
