What makes the luxury EBC trek different from standard packages?

The luxury itinerary upgrades accommodation to the best available lodges on the trail — Yeti Mountain Home, Everest Summit Lodges, and similar premium tea houses with heated rooms, en-suite or private bathrooms, and curated menus. Group sizes are capped at 8 trekkers maximum. You also receive a personal guide (not shared), daily oxygen readings, and a dedicated porter per person rather than the standard 1-per-2 ratio.

Is Everest Base Camp itself luxurious or still basic?

Above Dingboche (4,410m), even luxury lodges are rustic by necessity — altitude logistics limit what can be carried up. The difference is in the lower-altitude stages where accommodation quality jumps significantly. By the time you reach Gorak Shep, you will be in the best available lodge at that elevation, which is still a simple tea house — but warmly appointed relative to budget options.

What does the price include?

Included: Kathmandu–Lukla–Kathmandu flights, all accommodation at premium lodges throughout, full board (three restaurant-quality meals daily), dedicated NMA senior guide (English-speaking), one porter per person, all permits (Sagarmatha NP and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit), pulse oximeter monitoring, airport transfers, and a Kathmandu hotel pre-trek night.

What altitude does this trek reach?

Identical to the standard EBC route — Kala Patthar at 5,545m is the highest point, followed by Everest Base Camp at 5,364m. The itinerary follows the classic Lukla–Namche–EBC route with the same acclimatisation logic, just with better beds, food, and service throughout.

What permits are required?

Both Khumbu permits are included in the package price. Two permits are needed: Sagarmatha National Park entry and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit, NPR 3,000 each (about US$45 together). There is no TIMS card in the Khumbu; the municipality permit replaced it. Your guide handles all permit paperwork and checkpoint registrations.

Is travel insurance different for the luxury package?

Insurance requirements are identical regardless of package tier — you must hold a policy covering emergency helicopter evacuation from altitude (minimum $100,000 medical cover) and altitude trekking to 6,000m. We recommend purchasing before departure and sharing policy details with us prior to travel.

This 14-day itinerary follows the same classic route — Lukla, Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, Base Camp, Kala Patthar — but every night is spent in the region's premium lodge properties: the Yeti Mountain Home collection, Summit Lodges, or equivalent, where en-suite rooms, gourmet meals, and in-some-cases hot stone showers await after each day's walk.

Trekking is demanding. Teahouses are part of the authentic experience for most visitors — but if your idea of a restorative evening is a real bed with a duvet, a hot shower you don't pay extra for, and a chef-prepared three-course dinner with wine, the luxury lodges transform the experience. Wake up for your Kala Patthar sunrise having slept properly. Arrive at Everest Base Camp having eaten well every day. The mountain is the same; the recovery is radically different.

The itinerary includes a personal porter for each trekker, a senior certified guide, and all meals throughout. Helicopter rescue insurance to USD 5,000 is included — standard on all our luxury packages. For trekkers who want Everest without compromise, this is the definitive way to do it.

What differs: accommodation quality (lodge en-suite vs shared teahouse dorm), meals (gourmet set menus vs standard teahouse dal bhat), group size (max 8 vs max 12), personal porter ratio (1:1 vs 1:2), and guide seniority (all our luxury groups are led by our most experienced senior guides with 15+ years on the Khumbu). Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Prime season. October is perfect — clear skies, stable weather, 4–6 week dry window. November gets cold at altitude but still excellent. EBC trail at its busiest.

Low: -10°C at EBC High: 15°C Namche October: minimal. November: possible above 5,000 m

Spring (Mar–May)

Climbing season — expeditions on Everest. Good trekking weather. Rhododendrons in Namche area. Pre-monsoon cloud builds in afternoon from May. Slightly warmer than autumn.

Low: -8°C at EBC High: 18°C Namche March: possible at pass level. May: mostly clear

Winter (Dec–Feb)

Very cold. Khumbu trails remain open but temperatures extreme at EBC (-20°C+). Experienced cold-weather trekkers only. Fewer crowds. Lodges may be closed above Namche.

Low: -25°C at EBC High: 5°C Namche Heavy above 5,000 m

Monsoon (Jun–Aug)

Not recommended. Trails wet and unstable. Cloud cover obscures mountain views. Risk of landslides on lower sections.
