The Australia ETA is a AUD 20 service charge, paid in the official Australian ETA app, and Home Affairs says there is no other charge for an ETA. Each visit can last up to 3 months, and most applications are decided immediately. Those figures come from the Home Affairs ETA page, and the rest of this guide sets out what that page does and does not say, so you know what to check before you pay anyone.
- AUD 20 is the official fee. Home Affairs lists no other charge for the ETA itself.
- Apply through the official app. Third-party sites that charge more are not the government's service.
- Each visit is capped at 3 months. The page does not describe a longer stay on one visit.
- Check eligibility on the official page. Whether your passport qualifies is set by Home Affairs, not by a broker.
How much does the Australia ETA cost?
The Home Affairs ETA page says there is a service charge of AUD 20 to use the Australian ETA app, and no other charge is payable for an ETA. That is the figure to budget for. The search results we read for this topic included commercial sites charging AUD 50 to AUD 100 or more for "processing"; those are not government services, and they add nothing to the official route.

How long can you stay on an ETA?
The ETA lets you stay up to 3 months at a time, according to Home Affairs. The ETA is valid for 12 months or for the period your passport is valid, whichever is shorter, according to Home Affairs. The visa is granted with multiple entry, so you can leave and re-enter during that period.

How do I apply, and how fast is the answer?
Apply through the Australian ETA app, and expect a decision straight away in most cases. Home Affairs says the result comes immediately in most cases, but the application may take longer if you do not complete the process correctly or if the department needs more information. Do not book non-refundable flights on the strength of an application that has not been approved.

Who can apply for an ETA?
Eligibility depends on your passport, and the list of eligible passports is set by Home Affairs. The list has 34 passports: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong (SAR of China), Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Portugal, the Republic of San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan (excluding official or diplomatic passports), the Netherlands, the United Kingdom (British Citizen and British National (Overseas)), the United States, and Vatican City. You cannot apply with a non-citizen passport, a certificate of identity or a Titre de Voyage. If you hold more than one passport, you must declare the others in your application. New Zealand is not on the list.
