A Nepal family trip from India in 2026: no visa, short flights, big mountains
Nepal is the easiest international family holiday from India — no visa, short flights, rupees accepted. Here's how to plan a 6–8 day Kathmandu–Pokhara family trip.

For an Indian family planning a first trip abroad, Nepal is almost unfairly easy. No visa. No language barrier. Short flights from every major metro. The rupee in your pocket spends. And at the end of it: the Himalaya, temples, lakes and jungle, all in one compact, affordable country. Here is how to plan it for 2026.
Why Nepal is the easy family trip
- No visa, no fee — enter on a passport or Voter ID
- Direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata
- The Indian rupee is widely accepted
- Short distances: Kathmandu and Pokhara cover most family highlights
The classic family route
The sweet spot for a family holiday is six to eight days on a Kathmandu–Pokhara loop. Kathmandu delivers temples and history — Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, the Durbar Squares — while Pokhara is pure relaxation: boating on Phewa Lake, the World Peace Pagoda, a sunrise at Sarangkot, and gentle day hikes with mountain views the kids will remember. Add Chitwan for a jungle safari, or Nagarkot for a Himalayan sunrise, if you have extra days.
| Days | Where | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Kathmandu | Temples, Durbar Square, easy sightseeing |
| 3–5 | Pokhara | Lake, Peace Pagoda, Sarangkot sunrise |
| 6 | Pokhara | Optional short hike or paragliding |
| 7 | Kathmandu | Shopping, departure |
Practical notes for Indian families
Travel is genuinely frictionless: carry passports or Voter ID cards (and originals for children), and you walk across the border or through the airport without a visa or fee. Indian rupees are accepted almost everywhere, though it helps to carry smaller notes. Roads between cities are scenic but slow, so for a short family trip the 25-minute Kathmandu–Pokhara flight is worth it. October–November and March–April offer the clearest mountain views.
