Planning a Nepal Trek from the UK (2026): Flights, Costs, Itineraries & Visa
Everything a British traveller needs to plan a Nepal trek in 2026 — real flight routings from the UK, a realistic budget in pounds, sample itineraries, the best season and the easy visa.

Britain's bond with the Himalaya runs deep — from naming Everest to the 1953 first ascent — and Nepal remains one of the great British adventures. It's also easy to arrange once you know the logistics. Here's the complete trip-planning guide for UK travellers in 2026: flights, costs, itineraries and the visa.
Nepal from the UK — quick facts
- Visa: issued on arrival in Kathmandu (US$30 / $50 / $125) — full rules on our Nepal visa guide for UK citizens
- Flights: no direct route — about 13–18 hours via one Gulf or Istanbul hub
- Best time: autumn (Sep–Nov) and spring (Mar–May)
- All-in budget: roughly £2,000–3,200 for a 2–3 week trip
Getting there: flights from the UK
There are no nonstop flights from the UK to Kathmandu (KTM); you connect through one hub. The quickest routings from London are via the Gulf or Istanbul — Qatar Airways (Doha), Emirates or flydubai (Dubai), Etihad (Abu Dhabi), or Turkish Airlines (Istanbul). Total journey time is typically 13–18 hours including the layover, and round-trip fares usually run £600–1,000 depending on season and how early you book. Regional UK departures (Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham) connect easily through the same hubs.

Which trek — and a sample itinerary
- Everest Base Camp (12 days): fly to Lukla → Namche Bazaar (acclimatize) → Tengboche → Dingboche (acclimatize) → Lobuche → Gorak Shep → Everest Base Camp → sunrise at Kala Patthar → descend. Walk into a century of British mountaineering history.
- Annapurna Base Camp (9 days): from Pokhara into the Sanctuary — gentler, hugely scenic.
- Annapurna Circuit (14 days): the classic long loop over the Thorong La pass.
When to go & what to know
Autumn (Sep–Nov) gives the clearest skies and is peak season; spring (Mar–May) is warm with rhododendron blooms. Book 2–3 months ahead for autumn, and leave a buffer day for the weather-dependent Lukla flight. A licensed guide is required on the main routes (we include one). The pound goes a long way on the ground, so most of your budget is the flight.
