Why Korean trekkers book Nepal's autumn season months ahead

Autumn (Oct–Nov) is the Himalaya's finest trekking window — and it collides with Korea's own 단풍 hiking peak. Here's why Korean trekkers book 8–10 months ahead, and how to plan it.

Ask any Korean 등산 enthusiast when to trek Nepal and the answer is immediate: autumn. October and November bring the clearest skies, the most stable weather and the sharpest mountain views of the year — and that is exactly why these months book out first. For Korean trekkers, who often travel in organised groups, planning early is not optional; the best autumn departures fill the better part of a year ahead.

Key facts (가을 트레킹)

  • Autumn (Oct–Nov) is Nepal's prime trekking season
  • October 2025 was Nepal's busiest month: 128,443 arrivals
  • Korean operators advise booking 8–10 months ahead
  • It overlaps Korea's own 단풍 (fall foliage) hiking peak

Why autumn is the one

The monsoon washes the haze out of the air by late September, leaving October and November with crisp, transparent skies and reliably dry trails — the conditions that make the Himalaya look the way it does in photographs. It is no accident that this is Nepal's single busiest stretch: October 2025 alone drew 128,443 visitors, close to the all-time record. Teahouses, guides and the popular trails are at their busiest, which is precisely why early booking matters.

Winter (Dec–Feb)Cold but clear at lower elevations

The booking squeeze

There is a particular Korean twist: autumn in Nepal collides with Korea's own beloved 단풍 hiking season, so demand from Korean groups clusters tightly into the same weeks. Combine that with limited direct flight capacity from Seoul and the popularity of the Annapurna and Everest trails, and the message is clear — secure your dates, flights and group spots well in advance, ideally eight to ten months out for an October or November trek.
