If you are choosing your one big trek, the shortlist usually comes down to three: Everest Base Camp in Nepal, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru. Each is iconic. But they are very different challenges with very different rewards. Here is the honest, side-by-side comparison to help you choose.

The quick read

  • Everest Base Camp — the longest, the highest mountains, the deepest culture
  • Kilimanjaro — the highest summit you actually stand on (5,895m)
  • Inca Trail — the shortest, ending at the wonder of Machu Picchu
  • All three are non-technical — fitness and acclimatisation, not climbing

Which one, and why

Pick the Inca Trail if you want a short, history-rich walk to a world wonder. Pick Kilimanjaro if your goal is to actually summit a major peak on a tight timeline. But pick Everest Base Camp if you want the deepest, biggest mountain experience of the three — two weeks living among 8,000-metre giants, in warm teahouses rather than tents, immersed in Sherpa and Buddhist culture, at genuinely low cost. It asks the most days, and gives the most back.

What this means for you

If you only do one of the three, do the one that changes your sense of scale — Everest Base Camp. No climbing skills needed, just fitness and a couple of weeks. And if 14 days is too long, the Everest View trek delivers the Khumbu and a sunrise on Everest in about a week. We will match the trek to your time and fitness.
