Structurally it echoes Thailand’s long-stay nomad visa — a multi-year window with renewable one-year stays — but the income bar is lower and the cost of living is dramatically lower. The reported extras are unusually generous for South Asia: the ability to open a local bank account, register a vehicle, and drive on a foreign licence legally.

As of now, this is an announced plan, not a live visa. Applications are not open, the exact fee has not been published, and final terms can change before launch. Do not quit your job or buy a one-way ticket on the strength of a headline. The only official source to trust is Nepal’s Department of Immigration (immigration.gov.np) — watch it for the formal rollout.
Why Nepal actually suits remote workers
Beyond the visa, the case is real. Pokhara — lakeside, calm, framed by the Annapurnas — is a natural nomad base, and Kathmandu’s Thamel has co-working and fast fibre in the tourist core. Costs are low: a comfortable month can run well under what a single week costs in Western Europe. The honest caveats are power and connectivity — fibre is solid in the cities but patchy in the hills, so have a backup SIM and expect the occasional outage. And the once-in-a-lifetime perk no other nomad hub can match: when you close the laptop on Friday, the greatest trekking on the planet is a short flight or drive away.
