Do I need a visa to visit Nepal?

Most nationalities can get a tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport or land borders. A 15, 30, or 90-day visa costs roughly US$30, US$50, or US$125. Bring a passport valid for 6+ months, a passport photo, and cash in USD. A handful of nationalities must apply in advance.

When is the best time to trek in Nepal?

Autumn (late September to November) and spring (March to May) are the two prime seasons — stable weather, crystal-clear mountain views, and comfortable daytime temperatures. Winter is cold but quiet and great for lower routes; the June to August monsoon turns the hills green and is ideal for rain-shadow regions like Upper Mustang and Dolpo.

Do I need permits to trek in Nepal?

Most treks need a TIMS card plus a national-park or conservation-area permit — ACAP for the Annapurna region, Sagarmatha for Everest, and so on. Restricted areas such as Manaslu, Upper Mustang, and Dolpo require a special permit and a registered guide. We arrange every permit for you.

How much does a trek in Nepal cost?

A fully guided teahouse trek typically runs from about US$700 for shorter routes like Poon Hill or Mardi Himal to US$1,800 and up for Everest Base Camp — including your guide, permits, transport, and lodging. We itemise every cost upfront, so the price we quote is the price you pay.

Is trekking in Nepal safe, and what about altitude?

Nepal is one of the safest destinations in Asia for travellers, and trekking is well-supported. Altitude is the main thing to respect — our itineraries build in proper acclimatisation days, our guides are wilderness-first-aid trained, we carry oxygen on high routes, and we follow a strict descend-if-in-doubt rule. We have guided 5,000+ treks with zero fatalities.

Do I need a guide, or can I trek independently?

Many classic routes can be walked independently, but a licensed guide is mandatory in restricted areas and, since 2023, for most national-park treks. Beyond the rules, a local guide transforms the trip — language, culture, safety, and access to villages and homestays you would never find on your own.

Every trek is led by an NMA-certified guide trained in wilderness first aid. We carry oxygen and a pulse oximeter on all high-altitude routes, build in proper acclimatisation days, and turn people around when the mountain says so. In 29 years and more than 5,000 treks we have never lost a client.
